Now that we are heading into the colder months I like to make hot breakfasts more often. During the summer, my kids are able to grab a quick bowl of cereal before heading to school, but there’s just something about sitting down to a hot breakfast with coffee or hot chocolate when the sun hasn’t risen yet and there’s snow on the ground.
I’ve recently been introduced to AE Dark Chocolate Milk and it is every bit as amazing as the original AE Chocolate Milk. Did you know AE Chocolate Milk is made with three gourmet European cocoas? My kids can definitely taste the quality of AE milk over other brands.
But did you also know that AE Dark Chocolate Milk isn’t just for drinking?! That’s right, you can use it in a variety of recipes. Today we are making a Dark Chocolate French Toast Casserole which tastes just as decadent as it sounds.
Dark Chocolate French Toast Casserole
French toast casseroles have become one of my favorite breakfasts to make because you can prepare it the night before. Simple ingredients and simple recipes has become my cooking mantra as a mom of five. I want to make homemade foods, but I also want convenience and easy preparation.
This french toast casserole recipe only calls for a loaf of challah, AE Dark Chocolate Milk, sugar, butter, cream and eggs. The chocolate syrup drizzled on top of the casserole consists of only coconut oil, cocoa powder and maple syrup. It is seriously so good. You can put it on ice cream, fresh fruit or it would even be delicious drizzled on the Fruit, Yogurt and Granola Breakfast Tarts I made last month.
- 1 loaf of challah
- 1 stick of butter
- 2 cups AE Dark Chocolate Milk
- 6 eggs
- ¾ cup sugar
- ½ cup cream
- For the chocolate syrup:
- ½ cup coconut oil
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- 6 Tablespoons maple syrup
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease a 9x13 pan.
- Cut the challah into one inch cubes and place in the pan.
- In a large bowl combine the AE Dark Chocolate milk, eggs, sugar, cream and melted butter. Mix.
- Pour evenly over the bread. (If you are preparing this the night before. Place in the fridge at this point.)
- Bake for about 45-50 minutes.
- Meanwhile make the chocolate syrup by combining in a small bowl.
