As parents, we buy many products for our households and we don’t think twice. I know about and have a passion for social responsibility and yet I still find myself buying products from brands with known ethical labor issues. Corporate social responsibility is essential to make change in the world, but how can we help create that change? How can we demand it? We need to start supporting ethical companies who desire to make quality products, but not at the expense of vulnerable people or the environment.

What do social responsibility and a sweetener have in common?
Truvia® is a natural sweetener made with Stevia leaf extract that comes from the Stevia plant which is native to South America. In these South American communities where Truvia® operates they will make an impact and they have the ability and responsibility to make this impact a positive one.
I have written about Truvia and their Sharing A Sweet Future campaign in the past because when I share, people become more aware and can make conscious choices in what they buy. Here is a brief recap of Sharing a Sweet Future campaign:
On World Food Day 2012, the Truvia® brand joined with the World Food Programme to launch its Sharing a Sweet Future campaign. Now in its third year, nearly $1 million in contributions from the Truvia® brand has been used to help develop sustainable communities in Bolivia, a region of critical need with one of the highest rates of nutritional deficiencies in South America.
Through the past three years with its partnership with United Nations World Food Programme, Truvia has:
- donated 130 metric tons of vegetable oil to cook 2 school meals per day.
- 67,330 Bolivian school children have been fed.
- 250 cleaner stoves have been built in local communities which benefit almost 31,000 teachers and students.
- Micronutrient powder was distributed to more than 50,554 children.
Let’s share this infographic on your social media channels and share the impact that Truvia has made in the communities they operate and for their commitment to social responsibility.
