It’s the start of a new school year and I have FIVE lunches to pack. I am tempted to do those cute bento boxes, but have been opting for something that takes a little less time. This classic brown bag lunch is super easy and has a few fun personalized elements to show your kids you are thinking about them during the school day.
All you need for a yummy, healthy lunch is quality ingredients. This recipe is simple. Here I’ve got classic sandwich ingredients that you can never go wrong with: whole wheat bread, romaine, tomatoes, colby jack cheese, roast beef and Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise in their new squeeze bottle.
You can always make sandwiches exciting by switching up the bread, cheeses, meats and vegetables. The combinations are endless.
3 Ways to Personalize Simple Brown Bag Lunches
- Leave love notes: You can write a quick note on scrap paper or purchase little lunchbox notecards with riddles and short messages. I remember my mom putting notes in my lunch in elementary school and even though I sometimes acted like I was a little embarrassed, I loved the surprise.
- Write on bananas! Leave a message or draw a quick picture on a banana with a toothpick. By lunchtime, the writing on the banana skin will turn darker. It takes only a few seconds to add a little love!
- Make sandwiches special. The newly designed Hellmann’s Squeeze Bottle offers a clean lock cap and tip, so precise that topping a sandwich with a little extra love never appeared so perfect. You can put the mayo just where you want it!
This was a simple lunchbox that I put together in 5 minutes. I have the roast beef sandwich with colby jack cheese, romaine lettuce, tomatoes and Hellman’s mayonnaise on whole wheat bread. I can’t forget those fruits and veggies so I packed sliced carrots, cucumbers and a half of a banana. I like to include a few healthier options for treats so I packed ancient grain popcorn clusters with blueberries, cranberries and raspberries as well as a few natural sour gummies.
