My New Kitchen

A few months ago I talked about my new kitchen “makeover.” It’s been a wild ride preparing for these new appliances, with several handyman visits to check out our kitchen space and measure. A plumber came to install shut off valves behind the stove and fridge and in the process a pipe burst in our basement, which led us having to get an excavator to dig up our front yard! Yikes!

All is well now, so I’m happy and relieved to share the finished look (Although I have a few more small diy decorating projects on my list).

This refrigerator is the Maytag® Ice2O® French Door Refrigerator with Easy Access Drawer. It seems much more spacious then our previous fridge, but is able to fit in the same space.

Before, I would often have to throw out foods that have gone bad simply because I didn’t know they were there, hidden behind other things in the fridge. This easy access french door refrigerator has many different shelves allowing all of your leftovers and foods to be seen.

One of my favorite features of this fridge, something I first noticed, is the pull-out refrigerator drawer. This is where I store the snacks, fruits and veggies and it allows easy access for kids to grab healthy snacks (Minus the sodas which are my husband’s and my bad habit). By putting your go-to snacks and drinks in this fridge drawer, energy is saved because you don’t have to open the whole fridge.

Maybe I am just not organized, or have too much in my freezer, but it seems I can’t fit as much in this freezer than my previous model. If either of the freezer drawer sections become too full or if a box is positioned in a certain way, the drawers get caught and won’t close. Then I find myself rearranging all of the foods almost each time I open the freezer to get something.

I thought the refrigerator would be my favorite appliance, but this range has taken the cake. It is a gas range with EvenAir™ convection and it looks extremely sleek. The heavy duty die-cast metal grates are extremely durable and the whole oven seems well made.

The vent above the stove provides much more light and air suction than my previous standard vent. Every time I made dinner with my older stove, our smoke alarm would go off with just a touch of smoke in the air. Now I don’t have to deal with the inconvenience of listening and turning off the touchy smoke alarm because much of the heat and smoke from cooking on the stove top or opening the oven is taken care of by the vent.

I will continue to give you an honest look at each of these appliances over the coming months. If you are in the market for a new stove or fridge, be sure to follow me for updates. For more information visit Maytag‘s website, follow the Maytag Facebook Page, and Maytag Twitter handle.

Putting Baking Soda to the Grill Test #SwitchandSave

Last month I showed you a few neat uses for baking soda, but this month I’m going to tackle a dirty, not-so-fun job that doesn’t get done enough. The grill.

I’m kind of embarrassed to show you this photo of our disgusting grill and I can’t believe we’ve cooked food on it- and have actually eaten it. It’s about time I’ve given this grill a good cleaning, especially for our health.

I’m not necessarily switching from a previous brand to Arm and Hammer baking soda for this project because I’ve never actually cleaned the grill. I mean, I scrape the rack after I use it, but it doesn’t look like that is enough.

If baking soda can get all of this soot, grime and charred food off of our grill, I’ll have faith that it can clean almost anything. It’s amazing that Arm and Hammer has no harsh chemicals, but still safely cleans, freshens and deodorizes.

In the next few days I’ll be giving our grill a needed cleaning and I’ll let you know if Arm and Hammer baking soda does the job!

The maker of ARM & HAMMER® products challenged me to switch to ARM & HAMMER Baking Soda and this summer, they are giving away $12,000 in the ARM & HAMMER Switch & Save Challenge Sweepstakes. To be entered to win one (1) of twelve (12) $1,000 prizes, simply reply to the question below!

A #MaytagMom Kitchen Makeover

My husband and I aren’t too extravagant. We are content with what we have, but are always trying to find inexpensive ways to spruce up our tiny home. I wish I had a before picture of our kitchen because my handy hubby recently installed this new flooring. It is a dramatic improvement from our dingy carpet and tiled kitchen and we saved quite a bit of money by installing it ourselves.

To go along with our new floor, I’m excited to get a kitchen appliance makeover. Our current appliances were there when we moved in and are pretty basic. As a #MaytagMom I will receive a Maytag Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator with Spill Catcher Shelves, a Microwave with Stainless Steel Interior, and a gas Range. The campaign initially included a dishwasher, but as you can see we only have room for a mini dishwasher, which only a few companies make.

For the next few months I will chronicle my experience with these Maytag appliances, so if you are in the market for a new fridge, range or microwave, like me on Facebook to receive updates on my experience.
