I started the blog Busy Mommy in the beginning of my junior year of college back in 2007. I didn’t even know about the existence of ‘mom blogs,’ but the isolation of being a new, young Mom drove me to reach out to other moms on the internet. Somehow, my husband and I graduated college all while being newlyweds and raising a newborn. Looking back, I still don’t know how we did it.
Eventually we moved back to our hometown in Des Moines, Iowa where TJ got a ‘real’ job, we bought a small house and I was able to stay at home with our son. What started out as a fun hobby, Busy Mommy eventually turned into a full time job (with part time pay), but I am grateful for all of the opportunities this blog has brought. One of my favorite ‘jobs’ to date has been appearing in a Cool Whip print ad in several magazines (Better Homes and Gardens, Real Simple and Parenting).
As our son grew older, we felt the desire to grow our family. For some reason, adoption kept creeping into my mind, but at 24 years old the idea seemed crazy. Eventually, after much thought and prayer, my husband jumped on board and we started the adoption process. Looking back at it now, we both feel we were truly called to adopt.
Throughout this process, our faith has grown. One of my favorite quotes from a great book called Kisses from Katie, a story of a young woman living in Uganda who has adopted 13 girls, has become the reason why we are adopting and will continue to make the orphans of the world a priority.
“My friends, adopting these children, it is not optional. It is not my good deed for the day; it is not what I am doing to “help out these poor kids.” I adopt because God commands me to care for the orphans and widows in their distress. I adopt because Jesus says that to whom much has been given, much will be demanded (Luke 12:48) and because whoever finds his life will lose it but whoever loses his life for His sake will find it (Matthew 10:39).
So here we are, at 25 years old with a five year old son, adopting two five year olds. As my son likes to say, we will have triplets! Follow us on our journey.

My visits to Ghana have opened my eyes to the necessity of helping our brothers and sisters in third world countries. Many children are orphaned due to the effects of extreme poverty in one way or another. While in the process of adopting, I knew I didn’t just want to adopt children who needed a family, but I also wanted to help reduce the number of future orphans in someway. (Even if that’s just one!)
That’s why I became a Noonday Ambassador. You may see me promote the products and advocate for the artisans of Noonday throughout my blog because by promoting these handmade products, struggling artisans now have jobs and a steady paycheck and are able to assure food is on the table for their families, access medical care they never would have been able to receive, and drink clean water.
If you would like to learn more about Noonday Collection, the beautiful jewelry and accessories or if you are interested in hosting a trunk show in your home town {awesome excuse for a girl’s night!} feel free to email me and we can chat!
