Hi, my name is Emily. I started blogging after the birth of my first son in 2007 as a hobby. Little did I know that I would truly grow into the name ‘Busy Mommy’ and blogging would become more than a hobby. In 2013, our family grew to five through adoption. We are a transracial family. That means my mommy duties include striving to be the best mom I can be by helping my kids and family navigate the complexities of adoption, keeping my kids’ Ghanaian cultural roots and advocating and learning about racial aspects that affect them and others in America.

There’s no place I’d rather raise my family than the Midwest. I’m a movie and tv-series-aholic. A good book is my happy place. I’m a home cook with a lot to learn. My food is not gourmet. Simple and easy is my goal at home, but I’m a foodie at heart. I have an art degree (which is unfortunately known as one of the top 10 useless degrees to have!) I love to see the world. I’m grateful to have spent time in Ghana, Brazil, Croatia, Mexico, Jamaica and I look forward to visiting other countries and experiencing different cultures.

I hope you will see four main components in this blog: Family, Food, Moms and Social Good.

Family: Anything and everything to do with our family. Whether that’s our new house, an innovative toy that I endorse, spirituality and faith, adoption or gardening with the kids.

Food: One of the things I love to do is develop recipes. That could be quick and healthy lunchbox ideas, freezable spaghetti sauce, slow cooker meals or delicious desserts.

Moms: I like sharing my latest Stitch Fix Box, a fall outfit idea, or things like how to save money on birthday gifts or Father’s Day gift ideas.

Social Good: My heart is truly in social good and I want to use my voice (my blog) for good. I hope you can see that not only in the dedicated social good section where I write about companies that give back, gifts with purpose, and topics like modern-day slavery, but weaved throughout all of my blog topics,.
