It’s that time of year again! Peeps are lining the shelves and will fill Easter baskets soon! These sugary marshmallow birdies have always been a part of our celebrations, but last year I wanted to use Peeps in a new way – Peep Brownie S’mores became our favorite new decadent and delicious way to use Peeps.
This year in honor of Peeps’ 60th birthday and Easter I wanted to make something new and special. Fondant is a favorite way to decorate cakes and cupcakes, but Peeps fondant?! That’s even better! You can use fondant for a variety of desserts: cakes, cookies, pops, brownies, the possibilities are endless for PEEPS-flavored fondant. You could even use this recipe for a fun, edible version of playdoh. Who could resist PEEPS flavored edible playdoh?!
Peeps Marshmallow Fondant
1 package Party Cake Peeps (use other flavors for different colors)
3 Tbls. water
3 cups powdered sugar, more for dusting
- Take one package of Peeps, unwrap them and place in a microwave safe bowl with 3 Tbls of water. Microwave for 30 seconds and stir until melted.
- Place 3 cups of powdered sugar on a flat surface and create a well in the center. Pour the melted Peeps in the center and start mixing with the powdered sugar until incorporated. Knead until smooth and roll into a ball. (This will be a sticky mess if you don’t make a “well” and slowly fold in the powdered sugar!)
- Dust a rolling pin with powdered sugar and roll the Peeps fondant ball thin. Use cookie cutters to cut out your desired shapes.
