Let’s face it, whatever book Oprah adds to her book club list, it reaches the best-selling charts no matter how good or bad it may be. I never read one of her “picks” until I received a Kindle (I highly recommend it). The Kindle makes books easily accessible and it downloads at the touch of a button. I find myself reading more often and am always on the lookout for good books.
I thought I would give in to the hype about her book club picks, especially after the popularity of Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth (which I haven’t read). So I purchased and downloaded Oprah’s latest book club pick Say You’re One of Them
by Uwem Akpan, an African Catholic priest. I love the culture of Africa, I’m Catholic, and Uwem studied at Creighton University where my husband is currently a student, so I thought this book would be wonderful!
I usually read a good book within a week, but I haven’t touched my Kindle in about three weeks. Something is missing from this book and I can’t put my finger on it. The book doesn’t flow and well….I’m just not interested.
I would not recommend choosing books based on Oprah’s book club picks. I would take reading suggestions from family and friends and hey.. I’m a friend, so here are some of the best books I have read lately.

I would agree, I find the BEST way to get good books is to look at Indie Bookseller Recommendation lists.
