Fish Tanks Are Fun For The Whole Family!

My family and I moved into our new apartment in late July and throughout the month of August it felt as though something was missing from our new home.  We wanted a dog, but … our lease wouldn’t allow it.  I suggested a kitten… but my husband wouldn’t allow it.  A few moments after my kitten suggestion was shut down, Colton came running out from his room with his Dora the Explorer fishing pole yelling, “Fishy…fishy!!!”  It was settled, we purchased an aquarium the last week in August and I have been amazed how great our experience has been.

Now… I know what most people are thinking, “Yeah, I’ve had a fish bowl and been through several goldfish and they just aren’t that much fun after awhile especially when they die after a week.”  I understand where you are coming from because that had been my past experience too.  However, we purchased a 37 gallon Eclipse aquarium (by Marineland) at a garage sale through craigslist.org (what a great find!) and decided that we were going to try to do it the right way.

There are a certain number of steps we had to take before purchasing any fish for our new tank, these are perfectly explained and laid out on the Marineland website.  After the preliminaries are complete, it’s time to stock your tank.  Marineland wanted us to get the full experience of a Marineland aquarium and provided us with some of its new state of the art décor and its top of the line stealth heater so that we could provide an outstanding habitat for tropical freshwater fish.

Now you may be saying to yourself, “What’s so great about a fish tank?”  Well for starters, our aquarium has provided a fun learning experience for our family.  In addition, it has taught Colton responsibility, as he is in charge of feeding the fish once in the morning and before he goes to bed.  Overall, it has been a lot of fun and we have been able to keep our fish alive!

Disclosure: Marineland provided us with fish food, decor and a heater.
