I Came Home To A Nice Surprise…. A Rotting Chicken

What a nice surpise! We were away from home for two weeks, and for some reason our refrigerator gave up on us. I came home to a nasty smell and when I looked in the fridge I got a great big whiff of rotted milk. I guess we forgot to throw it out. That will never happen again! I then noticed that the fridge wasn’t cold, so I checked out the freezer to see if things were working. I almost fainted. The photo above is what I saw…. and smelled, worse than any poopy diaper imagineable.
In the freezer, there was a frozen chicken, but it wasn’t frozen anymore. The rotting meat popped out of its packaging and was leaking juices all over my freezer. This is the sickest things I have ever had to deal with in my life. I was just imagining all of the bacteria on my hands and in my kitchen. Good thing we moved the next day, because I’m sure the smell would linger for quite some time.

OH YUCK!!!! I would have given that job to my hubby! I don’t like to touch chicken at all! I can just see the bacteria on me when I cook it! That totally stinks (lol) that that happened!

Gross! I get sick just thinking about it.
Comment by Amanda on 20 July 2009:
Nasty! I probably would’ve puked and handed the clean up job off to hubby.

I feel your pain. That is how my freezer was when we returned home after Hurricane Katrina, except that we still didn’t have power so we just cleaned the best we could. The smell stays for a long while.

That is so awful! I feel for you. That happened to us once, however ours died slowly. First I returned the spoiled milk and told the grocery store the sold me bad milk LOL. Days later the fridge died completely.

I would have given hubby the job- or gotten a new fridge! LOL Glad you got to move! LOL

Wow, I could have done without seeing that first thing in the morning!! I know your experience was much worse so I’ll forgive you.
That’s so gross, that it popped out of the packaging and everything.
I agree with Amanda, I would have passed on the cleaning to my hubby as well!

That’s the worst. My freezer just did this not to long ago. It was the grossest thing ever. Eww I can still smell it. Good thing you moved because it is really hard to get that smell to go away.

Eeeeewwww- I can smell it from here! Yeah, that is gross. Did I say gross…I meant REALLY gross! I second the sentiment “great of you to take a picture…very blogger of you” hehe. That’s just nasty.

Eck! I’m with Stefanie – I don’t even like to touch raw chicken…I can’t imagine the fun of cleaning up a raw rotting chicken. Ewwwww.

I literally threw-up a little in my mouth!! I DID NOT need to see (or smell it in my head) that!!
EEEWWWW!!

That is really disgusting! I’m dreading the day our refrigerator goes out…might be soon too. (I knew there was a reason I don’t cook chicken.) It grosses me out to touch it and smell it, even if it’s frozen. Much easier to buy a rotisserie chicken at the grocery store for dinner…So sorry your hubby was away. How is it that they miss these kind of things and the huge diaper explosions? :p
