Love Your Heart

Friday, February 6, 2009 is National Wear Red Day – a day when Americans nationwide will take women’s health to heart by wearing red to show their support for women’s heart disease awareness.

According to The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, heart disease is the # 1 killer of American women. In fact, one in four women dies of heart disease. Although the campaign is especially aimed at women ages 40 to 60, the time when a woman’s risk of heart disease starts to rise. Its messages are also important for younger women, since heart disease develops gradually and can start at a young age – even in the teenage years.

Check out the Go Red For Women website. Take the Go Red Heart CheckUp to learn your risk. It only takes a few minutes and can save a life. With results, you’ll be rewarded with a Personal Action Plan.

The earlier you start protecting your heart (as early as your 20’s), the less likely you may face challenges posed by cardiovascular disease. No matter what your age or where you feel you are in your life – the best time to start getting healthy is always right now.

Show your support for the women in your life – or yourself.

  1. Great post. I participate i their campaign as well as for stroke awareness, since I had a stroke when I was 37.
